POLICE investigating a suspected homophobic assault have arrested two 18-year-old men.

Officers were called last Saturday at 11.10am to a public toilet in Chapel Road, Ilford, by a member of the public and on arrival discovered a man in his fifties suffering from head injuries nearby.

He was taken to an East London hospital in what originally was thought to be a life threatening condition. He is still recovering from his injuries but has now been discharged.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in custody at a police station.

The attack is being treated as a as a homophobic assault, but officers continue to make enquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or saw anyone acting suspiciously around the Chapel Road area between 10.30am and 11.10am on October 31, is asked to call officers on 8358 0400 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
