A TEAM of kind-hearted volunteers plan to deliver Christmas hampers to elderly residents in some of Redbridge's most deprived areas - and need YOUR help to make the idea a reality.
Members of The Bridge community venue, in Woodford Green, hope to drop off baskets of seasonal gifts to old or isolated people across Woodford Green this winter, focusing mainly on the Orchard and Ray Lodge estates.
Chris Kapnisis, who helps run The Bridge, said the team - which will mainly be made up of youngsters from the Orchard or Ray Lodge areas - urgently needs donations to fund the project.
He said: "The Bridge is appealing to the local community to help create Christmas hampers for distribution to local elderly people, community champions or someone you think could really do with a gift.
"The hamper project will be coordinated and hampers will be made up with the involvement of young people volunteering from The Bridge.
We are asking you to consider donating good quality new food stuffs and products that would be suitable to include in a hamper, or a money donation which will be used solely to purchase items for the hampers.
"We also invite people to call us to nominate local people that they think should receive a hamper with their reason why."
To make a donation, or to find out more about the scheme call The Bridge on: 8505 5001.
The centre is open Tuesday to Friday from 10am until 2.30pm.
