GRATEFUL former customers have said a fond farewell to a popular newsagent who sold his shop after working for 22 years without a holiday.
Colin Foxwell has decided to sell Foxwell Newsagents in Woodford Green High Road and take a well-earned break after running the business seven days a week since 1987.
The 40-year-old - who has only ever taken Christmas Day off in the past - has finally put his feet up after handing over the keys to the shop to new owner Kiran Patel.
Traders and shoppers who used his shop have described the 40-year-old as a 'God send' for the community with many coming to rely on for help and advice - as well as for their daily newspaper and groceries.
Lauren Hendy, assistant manager at Gifford's Bakery, said Mr Foxwell would be sorely missed.
She said: "He couldn't do enough for you and always tried to help you out when he could.
"He was a really nice guy and it is a real shame to lose him."
These views were echoed by Jean Finch, of Beechwood Drive.
She said: "He has helped alot of the elderly people around here and has been a god send for the community.
"I told him that if he ever won the lottery I want him to take me with him."
Adrian Sinclair, manager of Spencer's estate agents, in Woodford Green High Road, said he had been using Mr Foxwell's shop since he was a boy.
"I've used the shop since I was a kid so it's sad to see Colin go.
"It was an established local business."
Beauty Clinic manager, Evie Adams, said it was about time Mr Foxwell had a rest.
She said: "It's amazing that he went so long without having a proper break.
"I hope he has a good holiday because he really deserves one."
Her colleague, Joanna Roussos sent the same message to the former newsagent.
She said: "Working that hard for that long must have taken alot out of him.
"I don't think I could do that."
Richard Chapman, owner of WD Chapman's nextdoor to Mr Foxwell's old shop, said: "Colin and his dad Stanley have been here for a long time.
"Good luck to them both."
