A FEMALE police officer was injured last night after a tree fell on the bonnet of her car in high winds.

The accident happened as she drove along the High Road in Ongar during severe storms yesterday.

She was not seriously injured.

Essex Police received a total of 144 weather-related calls yesterday and 98 were to report fallen trees.

In the south west of the county, a total of 17 incidents were reported, of which 10 were fallen trees and in the west, there was a total of 28, with 22 fallen trees.

Officers are continuing to advise motorists to take care in wet conditions and be wary of flooding.
