WALTHAM Forest Trades Council has made a donation to a charity which provides free meals to homeless people.
The organisation gave a £70 cheque to Christian Kitchen, which provides evening meals seven days a week.
Darren O'Grady, Waltham Forest Trades Council secretary, said: “The Trades Council thinks it is outrageous that the government can give billions to bankers and to pay for wars, while many of our fellow residents cannot afford to eat.
“Any decent society shouldn't need the service that the Christian Kitchen provides.”
The trades council is also organising a table top sell, at Quaker Centre, in Jewel Road, Walthamstow, in November 28 to raise money for the charity.
The event will take place between noon and 3pm.
To donate send a cheque payable to Christian Kitchen, at Waltham Forest YMCA, 642 Forest Road, E17 3EF.
