THE Guardian has joined forces with Physicals Gym in South Woodford to offer two lucky readers the chance to become our Fit Club Champions.

If you have always avoided joining a gym, but you are determined to shift a few pounds, this is your opportunity to get into shape once and for all.

You will get three months' free membership and your own personal trainer who will provide fitness and nutrition advice. All we ask in return is that you write a diary column for the Guardian each week to let our readers know how you are getting on.

We have two places up for grabs – for one man and one woman – who must be determined to lose weight and are happy to share their experience with our readers.

Physicals manager Neil Withington said: “From the point of the view of the contestants, it will be really motivational for them as they try to lose weight and become more active.

“It's good to get people involved at this time of year, because there's lot of temptation around December, with Christmas and everything that goes with it. Hopefully people can carry it on into the New Year and achieve some really positive changes.”

Following a major refurbishment earlier this year the gym boasts an 18-piece fixed resistance room with the latest Nautilus equipment, two cardiovascular suites featuring new Treadclimbers, a fully-equipped free weights room, and a studio for gym and aerobic classes.

Staff at the gym will be divided into two teams competing against each other to ensure that it is their contestant who makes most progress and to ensure that there will always be a team member on hand to help each of our contestants whatever time of the day or night they drop by.

The gym is open every day of the year except Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
