AN OLYMPIC hopeful put on a memorial gymnastics display for young schoolchildren last week.

Danny Lawrence visited Bancroft's Prep School on Whitehall Road, Woodford Green on Thursday November 12 and put on a breath-taking demonstration of his skills including a series of flips, somersaults and twists.

The 25-year-old has been representing his country since he was ten. He currently holds the British title for the rings and was ranked 4th overall in the 2009 British Championships. Danny has also held the British title for parallel bars and the vault and has been champion at under-14, under-15 and under-18 competitions.

He is currently working towards the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India and has his sights set on glory in London in 2012.

Danny visited the school as part of the Sports for Schools campaign which aims to inspire children to get involved in sports clubs and activities.

The campaign's representative, Paul Reeves, said: “The atmosphere here was terrific. I have never been to a school where so many teachers joined in with the circuits.”
