PROTESTERS angry about an increase in flights over Redbridge are to stage a 'flash mob' demonstration outside Ilford Town Hall this Thursday (November 19).
The protest is timed to coincide with a full council meeting held that evening in the building, during which the issue of nearby London City Airport's expansion will be discussed.
It comes after Newham Council approved an increase of 50,000 flights from the airport, taking its annual total over East London up to 120,000 - but protesters say Redbridge Council was not consulted over the issue.
Protesters will be meeting outside the Kenneth More Theatre at 6.30pm.
Both London City Airport and Newham Council have argued the increase in flights will prove beneficial to the economies of East London communities.
The motion at the council meeting, put forward by the Lib Dems, calls on the chief executive of the council to carry out "an immediate investigation into what Redbridge Council knew about the London City expansion and flight path changes, and what action was taken on the council's behalf".
The motion also calls on councillors to "recognise residents' concerns."
