FLYTIPPERS who dumped a large mound of rubbish in woodland have been fined a total of £1,100.

Lieoma Azuatalam, 40, of Dartford Avenue, Edmonton, and Diabuult Hasan, 39, of Stockfield Road, Walthamstow, were prosecuted for their involvement in the dumping of waste in woodland off Folly Lane, Walthamstow.

They were tracked down after letters addressed to Ms Azuatalam were discovered in the mess.

Ms Azuatalam had employed Mr Hasan to dump the rubbish, which included mattresses, suitcases, cardboard packaging and disused children's toys, without checking he had a license to carry and dispose of waste.

While a council officer was speaking to Ms Azuatalam, Mr Hasan arrived to pick up MORE waste to dump, and he admitted to flytipping in Folly Lane.

Waltham Forest Magistrates Court fined Ms Azuatalam £100 and ordered her to pay £415 in costs for failing in her duty of care to control the waste.

Mr Hasan was found guilty in his absence and was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £415 costs for depositing and transporting waste without authorisation.

Cllr Afzal Akram, cabinet member for enforcement said he was “delighted” by the prosecution.

He said: “ It sends out a strong message that you can’t just dump your rubbish wherever you chose and ruin the environment.

“Had they bothered to dispose of their waste lawfully they would have found it  would have cost them considerably less than the £1,930 they ended up forking out.”
