POLICE in Waltham Forest have launched a campaign to raise awareness of their work in local communities and boost public confidence.

Entitled Justice Seen, Justice Done, the campaign was launched nationally on Friday and officers in the borough are now set to start leaflet dropping and adding information to their website.

They will aim to let people know online when convictions are brought in specific areas and how police are working to make certain places safer.

A leaflet to be distributed around the borough states: “We are committed to working with you for a safer London.

“If we fail to meet our pledge, we will explain why it has not been possible on a particular occasion to deliver the high standards to which we aspire and you deserve.”

The campaign is aimed at keeping local residents informed about what the police are doing and about the 'policing pledge'.

The pledge states Safer Neighbourhoods Teams will be out in their areas 80 per cent of the time in a bid to cut time spent on administrative work.

It also makes promises including publicising contact details for officers and aiming to answer 999 calls within 10 seconds.

A spokeswoman for Waltham Forest Police said: “It's about better communication and raising public confidence in the police's ability to deal with everyday things.”

She added that while there is a borough-wide drive to reduce burglary, priorities and concerns are different within each Safer Neighbourhood Team's area.

The campaign therefore aims to let people know what police are doing to tackle specific areas of concern.

The spokeswoman said: “What might be a national priority or a Met priority might not be a local priority.

“This is about things that worry local people.”
