A DETERMINED 14-year-old - who gives up his free time to offer support and advice to other teenagers - has spoken to an audience of policymakers about the issues facing young people.
Stephen Baker, 14, gave a speech to an audience of 30 high-fliers at a meeting of the Greater London Assembly Peer Outreach Team (GLAPOS) held in City Hall - which included the Mayor of London's 'Ambassador for Youth' James Cleverly and senior police officers.
Stephen, who is currently studying at Redbridge College, in Ilford, began volunteering for the GLAPOS after a mentor helped him overcome challenges he was facing at school.
He has since committed himself to helping other young people who are struggling with school, and is now a mentor himself.
Stephen said: "I try to set a good example to the people I mentor and it's very nice to be supported for the work I do.
"My dream is to become an MP and make a difference to people's lives."
Tim Smith, Stephen’s tutor, attended the event to support him. He said: "I am very proud of the work Stephen does in his spare time, as well as his commitment to his education.
"In his presentation he spoke very highly about his course at Redbridge College."
