MEMBERS of a pet charity have appealed to the public for help after several bags of donations for the group were stolen in Chingford.
The bright pink sacks, stuffed full of clothes, toys and books destined for a PDSA shop in Barkingside, were snatched from an undisclosed area of Chingford last week.
PDSA manager Jan Harris said the thefts would impact the charity's ability to care for sick and injured animals.
She said: “Residents reported seeing people loading PDSA bags into the back of a white van. We’ve also noticed that bags are being stolen from Harold Hill and the surrounding areas.
“I’m disgusted that people can steal from a charity like this. We’ve lost out on valuable donations that would have helped raised vital funds for pets in need of vets.
“The problem has been going on for quite a few months now – and it’s getting worse.”
A spokesman for the charity said: “genuine PDSA collectors always carry identification and drive a dark blue van with PDSA branding.
“If supporters are concerned about their collections, they are asked to note down the vehicle registration number and contact the shop on 0208 551 9351.”
Supporters are now being urged to look for more unwanted items to help make up the shortfall.
For more information about how to help the PDSA call 0208 551 9351 or visit the Barkingside branch at 114 High Street, Barkingside between 9am and 5pm Monday to Saturday.
