WORSHIPPERS at a popular synagogue have been treated to a special visit and talk by the UK's top rabbi Jonathan Sacks.
More than 200 people flocked to Wanstead & Woodford Synagogue to hear Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks deliver the annual Harold Weinberg Memorial Lecture.
Chief Rabbi Sacks praised the synagogue's minister Rabbi Fleischer for his work and spoke of his 'connection' to the various other Rabbis of Wanstead & Woodford.
The 61-year-old gave a speech on the message of Chanukah - the Jewish festival of lights - for the 21st Century.
Lynn Appleby, a spokeswoman for the synagogue, in Churchfields, South Woodford, said Chief Rabbi Sack's speech was well received by everyone who attended.
She said: "The Chief Rabbi spoke about his Chanukah experiences in Parliament and how the festival represents renewed hope for the Jewish people.
"Questions and answers ranged from how to encourage more people to come to shul to what the Chief Rabbi hopes to achieve as a Lord.
"Chairman Malcolm Marcovitch paid tribute to the work done by the late Harold Weinberg in the community and his widow Ruth, who was present at the event."
