REDBRIDGE's first 24-hour open air gym is set to be installed in one of the borough's parks in a bid to encourage more youngsters to take up sport before the 2012 Olympics.
The adizone facility - donated by Adidas sportswear company - will be opened in Ray Lodge Park and boast football, basketball and tennis areas, a climbing wall and outdoor gym facilities.
The multi-sport site will be the first of its kind to be installed outside of the host Olympic boroughs - and the council hopes it will be become a popular social venue for residents in the area.
A council spokeswoman said: "Once installed, the gym will be free to use for local residents and groups 24-hours a day and aims to give young people an opportunity to meet socially while being encouraged to play sports.
"Local coaches and sports club organisers will be invited to attend the site, to spot talent and encourage young people to join local clubs and sporting organisations."
Seb Coe, Chairman of the London 2012 Organising Committee said: "It's fantastic to see adidas expanding the adiZone programme to Redbridge.
"The adiZones inspire young people to become more active and help make our vision of encouraging these young people to choose sport a reality."
