ALL over Waltham Forest the streets are lighting up as festive fairy lights are switched on for Christmas.
In Leytonstone on November 26, children enjoyed balloon modelling, a ‘rodeo reindeer’ and a special visit from Father Christmas.
The lights were officially switched on by Calum Best, son of George Best, and trees, lampposts and buildings were all illuminated.
Bursts of blue, gold, silver and traditional Christmas green and red all lit up the night sky as visitors braved the cold to watch.
A similar event was also held in Walthamstow town square as Waltham Forest mayor Cllr Anna Mbachu was joined in flicking the switch by council leader Chris Robbins and the town crier.
Spirits were high, despite low temperatures, and visitors were treated to music, face-painting and other entertainment.
Walthamstow Market was bathed in a festive glow as Christmas lights lit up along the length of the high street.
A switch-on event will also be held at Leyton Mills Retail Park on Saturday, featuring an appearance from 2.4 Children, Eastenders and Hollyoaks actor John Pickard.
Children will be treated to face-painting, a tea cup ride and another visit from Father Christmas as he tours the borough over the holiday season.
Chingford’s Christmas lights are set to be lit on December 5 in a special event in Chingford Mount Road.
Both events are between 2pm and 5pm.
