SIX gifted young footballers have visited a popular church to explain how their Christian faith has kept them on the path to success.

The players, all from Tottenham Hotspur's youth academy gave a special talk on their lives and careers during the 'men’s night' at All Saints’ church in Inmans Row, Woodford.

More than 150 men of all ages attended the evening, which featured a keenly contested sports quiz accompanied by curry and beer.

The church's vicar, Rev Paul Harcourt, praised the work of one of the speakers, John Bostock - an England under-19 star - who helped organise the evening.

He said: "A committed Christian for several years, it was his initiative to bring together fellow players to support each other and discuss their faith.

"The group has now grown to around a dozen, even including a young star from chief rivals Arsenal.

"Among the other stars speaking was Olu Durojaiye, a defender who made his debut at an academy tournament in April.

"Having attended four funerals of friends in the past year, he spoke movingly of how his faith has put him on a path away from the sort of trouble into which many young men end up.

"The evening was organised by the Cutting Edge men’s group, which meets regularly at All Saints’ sister church, Saint Andrew’s Chingford Lane."
