KIND-hearted police officers have done their bit to make Christmas a little merrier for British troops in Afghanistan by sending them boxes of luxury goodies.
A shipment of 120 'morale parcels' - containing anything from shampoo to chocolate - is now on route to soldiers from the Royal Anglian Regiment serving in Helmand province.
The Royal Anglians, which has the 'freedom' to parade through Ilford as one of its ceremonial honours, was selected to receive the gifts because of its strong ties with Redbridge.
DI Davies said: "Politics aside, there are British troops operating in harsh conditions many miles away from their families and friends.
"The generosity displayed clearly demonstrates the admiration the public have for their soldiers.
"The Royal Anglian Regiment was chosen through its ties to this area. Hopefully the parcels will make their Christmas more pleasant."
