A TASTY donation of £500 will be given to a Wanstead primary school for its help in declaring the High Street’s new Tesco store open.
The shutters go up at the store on Friday, December 11, and pupils from Wanstead Church Primary School across the road in Church Path will be guests of honour, cutting the ribbon at 10.30am.
Headteacher Peter Lewis said: “We are delighted to receive this donation from Tesco and would like to thank them for their support. The pupils are so excited to be guests of honour at the opening.”
The new store’s manager Colin Coleman said: “We are delighted to be able to support Wanstead Church School and are delighted that the pupils are coming to open the new store.
“My staff and I are looking forward to welcoming our customers into the new store and we hope that Tesco will become a key part of the local community.”
The new Tesco has faced a long-running campaign of opposition from neighbouring residents and traders concerned about potential loss of trade as well as fears over anti-social behaviour and parking.
It will be open from 6am till 11pm, from Monday to Sunday and will feature a cash point, a bakery, beers, wines and spirits, two self-service tills and a National Lottery counter.
