REUNITING the youth groups with the adult members of the Chingford Amateur Dramatic & Operatic Society for the first time in six years, CADOS’ next production, The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew, is a comedy for all ages.
Written specifically for the festive season by Robert Bolt, on the request of the Royal Shakespeare Company, the play sees Oblong Fitz-Oblong, a Knight of the Duchess, sent on a mission to restore justice to the Bolligrew Islands, where the evil Baron rules.
“It’s a nice little fairytale play with a pantomime twist, that’s not quite a pantomime,” says director and cast member Paul Warawi.
With the cast ranging in age from nine to “70 odd”, Paul, who starred in a school production of the play some 30 years ago, says it’s great to get the youth and adult groups “together for a change”.
“It gives a new generation the chance to appear in a more complex show,” he adds.
So, what exactly can the audience expect? “Some comedy, some fun, quality entertainment, and a good night out.”
The play runs at Mornington Hall, The Green Walk, Chingford, from tonight until Saturday, December 5, 7.45pm. Saturday matinee: 2.30pm. Tickets: 020 8529 2123 (adults £8/ children £6)
