A DRUNK driver who killed 15-month-old Finlay Woods has lost an appeal against her sentence.

Katie Gutierrez-Perez was jailed for seven years for causing death by dangerous driving after her 4x4 mounted the kerb outside Selwyn Primary School in Highams Park and crushed the boy.

Her counsel today at the Court of Appeal argued that there had been no psychiatric report on his client and the judge had not taken mitigating circumstances into account when sentencing last December.

Mrs Gutierrez-Perez claimed she had taken sleeping tablets in a failed suicide attempt and had been driving herself to hospital at the time of the crash on September 18 last year.

But the appeal judged ruled that her sentence was not excessive and rejected the appeal.
