DOZENS of illegal workers have been arrested on the 2012 Olympic Park.

Officers from the UK Border Agency arrested 90 people between April and November.

A total of 85 are suspected of immigration offences and some have been removed from the UK.

More than 40 were detained after using fake passports and other documents.

Of those, 32 were from India, 12 from Nigeria and seven from the Ukraine.

The rest were from Brazil, Kosovo, Moldova, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe and Albania other unspecified countries.

Eight others were entitled to work in the UK but were suspected of using false documents to gain employment.

Four of those were British, including a journalist attempting to gather evidence of lax security.

Tony Smith, senior director for the agency's Olympic 2012 programme, said: "We have officers based permanently at the Olympic site to check the identity of people seeking work and help ensure the Games are delivered on time, with a workforce legally entitled to be there.

"We're working closely with employers and contractors, giving presentations and advising them what checks they need to make to prevent illegal working."

Workers demonstrated in May claiming Olympics bosses were using cheap agency workers instead of local labour, contrary to promises made when London won the bid to stage the games.
