A DEMONSTRATION in favour of reopening a former cinema will take place on Sunday.
The McGuffin Film Society wants to see the former EMD building, in Hoe Street, restored as a cinema.
The site is owned by evangelical group Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, which has submitted plans to convert the listed building into a church, cafe, shops and community centre.
The application won't be determined until the new year at the earliest.
McGuffin believes the site should be sold to a cinema operator or compulsory purchased by the council, but this is not believed to be feasible because the authority would be likely to lose on appeal.
Sunday's demo begins at 3.30pm outside the former EMD building.
Following the protest there will be mince pies and free entertainment at the Rose and Crown pub in Hoe Street.
