THERE'S a big night at the Standard Music Venue in Walthamstow this Friday (December 11) with a Christmas performance from Guardian favourites Ken Dodd's Dad's Dog's Dead.

Presented by promoters Club Bus Wind, the night also features sets from Wideboy Generation, Sons of the Malt and Anything in Mind. Entry is a bargain £7. Doors open around 8pm.

The night before (Thursday 10) at the Standard there's another epic evening from Club Bus Wind, with a stream of good bands.

Acts include Tides of Virtue, Giants, Eternal Ocean, WearWolves, Hear the Echo and Your City is Forgotten. Entry is £6 or £5 with a band flyer.

And if you still haven't had your fill of the Blackhorse Road venue, on Saturday (September 12) it hosts tribute act Whole Lotta Led. Entry is £10 and doors are at 8pm.

At the Plough Inn on Walthamstow's Wood Street, this Thursday (December 10) sees E17 Jazz present a show from the Barry Green and Brigitte Beraha band.

Combining jazz with a mix of both classical and folk influences, the group also features acclaimed double bass and percussion duo Chris Laurence and Paul Clarvis.

Entry is £5 and doors open at 8pm for an 8.30pm start.

On Sunday (December 13) the Plough sees a night from singer-songwriter Leon Rosselson, thanks to the folks at Walthamstow Folk Club.

Entry is £6, or £5 for concessions, and it all starts at 7.30pm.

Monday (December 14) is free blues jam night from 9pm.

Waltham Abbey Folk Club hosts a singaround evening on Monday (December 14), costing £1.50. The evening starts at 8.30pm.

At the Square in Harlow on Thursday (December 10), unsigned band night features sets from Magna Saga, We Found the Fox and Nibiru.

Entry is £4, or free for members, and doors are at 8pm.

Friday (December 11) at the Square sees performances from This Distance, Orakai, Dying in Deep Water and Secrets Of Us All. Entry is £7, or £6 for members. Doors are at eight.

Next Wednesday (December 16) at the Sheepwalk in Leytonstone there's some mysterious 'special guests' at the pub's What's Cookin' night, but the promoters are remaining tight-lipped over who these special folks are at the time of going to press.
