YOUNGSTERS from across Redbridge will get the chance to learn more about the work of the boys in blue after the launch of the borough's first Police Explorers Club.
Children aged 11 to 14 will be able to join the new unit launched yesterday (December 8) by Redbridge Mayor Thomas Chan. which is run jointly by the police and Redbridge Council.
PC Sally Giles helped set up the club - which will be run jointly by the police and Redbridge Council and is designed to help youngsters learn new skills and avoid getting involved in crime and anti-social behaviour.
She said "I realised that many students in schools were interested in joining the police cadets but were too young.
" I’d been to a schools meeting in central London some months ago and heard about a Police Explorers project in Southwark and brought the idea back to Redbridge."
Funds have been secured for 30 students from local schools to attend weekly sessions at the centre every Tuesday from 4pm and 5.30pm.
