THE dangers of inventing an imaginary boyfriend were played out on stage by a young cast as they staged a classic 1950’s play.
Senior pupils at Forest School in College Place, Snaresbrook, staged The Boyfriend for their end of year production complete with cloche hats, flapper skirts and correspondent shoes.
Written in the mid 1950s but set 1926, it tells the story of a momentous day in the life of Polly Browne, secretary at Madame Dubonnet’s Finishing School for Young Ladies, but secretly the daughter of millionaire businessman Percival Browne.
With no one to take her to the Carnival Ball due to take place that evening, Polly invents an imaginary boyfriend, only to find herself falling in love with Tony, the messenger boy who delivers her ball dress.
Daisy Adams and Rory Hill played Polly and Tony, while Polly’s father, Percival, and Madame Dubonnet (who themselves turn out to be former lovers) were played by Jackson Caines and Elspeth Piggott.
