THE FAMILY of fallen Walthamstow soldier Darren Chant have been treated to a special trip to Lapland.
The visit, organised by the News of the World newspaper, saw Regimental Sergeant Major Chant's three children and their mother Connie meet Father Christmas and enjoy sleigh and husky rides through the artic snow.
The 40-year-old serviceman was one of five soldiers shot at a checkpoint in Afghanistain by a rogue policeman last month.
Sgt Major Chant was due to be told that he had been awarded an officer's commission on the day that he died.
More than 700 people attended his funeral less than a fortnight ago at the Guards Chapel at Wellington Barracks in central London, where he had got married just four months earlier.
