POLICE have launched a new operation to crack down on burglary in the run up to Christmas.
Extra officers - including dog units - have been brought to Redbridge to help cut the number of break-ins over the festive period as part of Operation Ethos.
Seven arrests have already been made since the initiative was launched yesterday (December 14) after several properties were searched.
A police spokeswoman said: "Ethos is an anti-burglary operation that will run well into the new year.
"The aim is to continue to build on the good results achieved by borough officers and the Territorial Support Group which has seen a near to 20 per cent reduction in residential burglaries over the past few weeks and over a dozen offenders charged and remanded in custody.
"During this operation Redbridge police will be supported by specialist teams posted to the area in uniform and plain clothes.
"These will include the Territorial Support Group, Traffic Division, Dog Section, Search Dogs, the Air Support Unit and additional detectives from the Serious Crime Directorate.
Detective Inspector Steve Meechan said: "I am confident that the specialist units employed during this operation will ensure the necessary support and presence to help achieve our aims.
"We continue to seek the support of the public with any information regarding these activities or those who may be responsible, and continued vigilance within your neighbourhood at all times. If you suspect it, please report it."
