BRITISH Transport Police (BTP) are urging people to stay safe while using buses, tubes and trains over the holiday period.
BTP have launched Operation Holly, aimed at combating assaults on staff and encouraging passengers to take precautions to keep themselves safe.
Officers are handing out cards to passengers at transport stations reminding them to be respectful to other passengers and staff and to look after their belongings.
Paul Shrubsole, BTP Chief Supt, said: “After a few drinks at the office party people are not as alert as they otherwise would be and this can put them in a vulnerable position if others are intent on committing crime.
“With spirits running high its Tube staff who can sometimes be at the receiving end of drunken and aggressive behaviour and this will not be tolerated.”
Chief Supt Shrubsole also said passengers are advised to plan their routes before they start drinking.
