DURING the mid-1970s many African American artists saw an opportunity to showcase their work as prints in order to provide an entry point for a black audience eager for a positive visual representation of their experiences.
Now a new exhibition at the Marcus Garvey Library will examine some of the leading artists, such as Bernard Stanley Hoyes, Brenda Joysmith and Ernie Barnes who contributed to the popularity of this art form.
Nightlife at the Studio – An Exhibition of African American Prints runs until Wednesday, December 30.
