TWO elderly shoppers robbed in the space of little more than a fortnight were almost certainly the victims of the same thieves, police have said.
On Tuesday a 91-year-old woman was returning to a car park in Teresa Mews after shopping in Walthamstow High Street.
She was then approached by two men who spoke to her before one of them grabbed her bag causing the strap to break, before running away.
The robbery happened at about 4pm.
The men are described as dark-skinned.
On November 30, an 83-year-old man was walking home after shopping at Tesco, at Leyton Baker's Arms.
As he started to walk home two men began a conversation with him.
They then grabbed him, pinning his arms to his side and took his wallet from his pocket.
Following the robbery, at about 10.10am, they then ran towards the Tesco store.
They are both described as white, 19 to 20 years old, about 6ft and were wearing black trousers and dark tops.
Trainee Det Con Ray Anderson, who is investigating the robberies, said he believes they are linked because of the similarity of the thieves methods.
He said: βIn both cases the victims were spoken to by the robbers and had bits of paper thrust into their face.β
Anyone with information should call TDC Anderson on 8345 3015 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
