ELDERLY and disabled people will be urged to take advantage of the updated Freedom Pass at a roadshow in the new year.
Transport for London (TfL) will be visiting Redbridge in a drive to make sure people eligible for free travel take advantage of the scheme by March 31 2010.
The new passes will include a smart card to help prevent fraud, and so will take up to 10 days to process rather than be available over the counter, as they previously were.
Also, the new-style cards will be valid for five years rather than just two.
Chairman of London Councils Transport and Environment Committee, Councillor Mike Fisher, said: “The Freedom Pass is a wonderful example of boroughs working together to improve the lives of older and disabled members of our community.
“I would urge all Freedom Pass holders to ensure they renew their passes well before 31 March to ensure they continue to enjoy the benefits of the scheme.”
Will be at The Mall, Ilford, on Tuesday February 2. For more information visit www.freedompass.org or call 0845 275 7054.
