A YOUNG girl was rescued from an island after walking across ice at Hollow Ponds.
The girl had ventured onto dangerously thin ice at the beauty spot in Whipps Cross Road, Leytonstone, on Tuesday following freezing overnight temperatures and snow.
But after reaching the island, the ice thawed and she had to be rescued by firefighters in an inflatable dingy.
Police and an ambulance were also called to the incident just before 1pm after a call from a member of the public.
The girl was taken to Whipps Cross University Hospital as a precaution, but suffered no serious injuries.
The event echoes scenes in January when several families with young children risked their lives by walking across the thin ice at Hollow Ponds and a dog walker actually fell in the icy water.
A London Fire Brigade spokesman said: “We would advise people not to go on the ice.
“Always obey the warning sings. If someone does fall through thin ice don't run to the hole because you may fall through it."
