TRIBUTES have been paid to a heroic “peacemaker” who was murdered after trying to break up a fight.
David Joslin, 23, of Highams Park, was knocked unconscious in Old Church Road, Chingford, outside Strictly Silver Jewellery shop on December 19.
He was taken to the National Hospital for Neurology, in central London, but died on Sunday morning.
A former pupil of St Mary's Primary School, in Station Road, Chingford, and Trinity Catholic High School, in Woodford Green, Mr Joslin had been working at the Morrison's supermarket in Chingford Road at the time of his death.
He had been attending a works Christmas party in Chingford Mount Road and was walking home when the attack happened.
Morrison's store manager Henri Quess said: “He had been with us for six years and was a junior member of management, a fruit and veg supervisor with a bright future.
“He got on with everyone, was extremely hard working and a good team player.
“He was a jovial guy, always joking and he was an Arsenal supporter.
“He grew up with a lot of the guys working at the store and they have taken his death hard.
“It is extremely sad to see what's happened to him.”
Mr Joslin was also a keen cricketer and played as a batsman for Chingford Cricket Club, scoring more than 1,000 runs last summer.
The club's first team captain Ben MacGregor said: "David was a massive character at the club and everyone is going to miss him a lot."
Mr Joslin leaves his parents Phil and Margaret, of Kimberley Road, Chingford, and younger brother Andrew and sister Lauren.
Police say Mr Joslin came across a confrontation between two groups of youths and tried to intervene, but was attacked.
A murder investigation has now been launched.
It is understood one of the groups came out of the Obelisk public house, in Old Church Road, and were involved in a fight with another group, which included three men and a woman.
Officers have spoken to some members of the group which came out of the Obelisk but are still seeking people from the other group.
Anybody with information about the killing, which happened shortly before 1.30am, should call police on 8345 3985.
To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
