A COUPLE received a very special Christmas gift as their son was born on December 25.

Cristina Mustata, 25, of Lea Bridge Road, Leyton, was due to have a Caesarian section yesterday (December 28) but began having contractions at about 3am on Christmas morning.

She said: “I started having contractions and I said, 'Let's get to the hospital' but my husband thought I was joking.

“I was due to have a Caesarian as I had a car accident about five years ago so it would have been hard for me and the baby to have a normal delivery.

“Everything was fine in the end though.”

Baby David arrived at 6.30am on Christmas morning – in time to receive his Christmas present.

Mrs Mustata said: “It's just unbelievable to have the baby for Christmas.

“I'm living with my brother and my mum and we were opening presents the night before.

“I put David's present under the Christmas tree because I thought, 'He's going to come and get it'.”

Husband Dorin, 27, a handyman, added: “He was always going to be called David. We expected a boy so we didn't have another name.”

The Mustatas' son weighed in at a healthy 4kg 240g at Whipps Cross University Hospital, Leytonstone, and is their first child.

David and his mother left hospital yesterday and the new arrival is now settling in at home in Lea Bridge Road.

A total of five babies were born on Christmas day at Whipps Cross including also baby Arianna born to parents Wendorth and Nigel Best of Stratford
