PLANS to demolish a brick garage on a 1930s estate and replace it with a three- bedroom house has attracted opposition from neighbours.
Council officers have recommended that approval for the new house next to 57 Onslow Gardens, on the Nightingale Estate in Wanstead, be approved despite the fact that it would sit as little as eight inches away from the adjacent property.
Several neighbours have objected, saying that the building would be too large for such a narrow site and would block out natural light.
One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said: “The density of housing round here is just getting crazy.
“I wrote a letter to the council to object, but they never even responded, they just said there was going to be a meeting.”
“Where are all the extra cars going to park?
“It’s becoming impossible. On a week day when everyone’s going to work its unbelievably busy down here.
“And you’ve got the school nearby so that makes parking and access so much harder.”
A decision on the application will be made at the next meeting of Redbridge Council's regional planning committee west on January 6.
