VOLUNTEERS have been called upon to help provide a little festive cheer for the borough's homeless people.
The Welcome Centre has offered a hot meal, a shower and advice and guidance for Redbridge's homeless since 2001 and wants more residents to lend a hand over the holiday period.
Volunteer, Neil Zammett, said workers at the centre - which is currently located in Albert Road, Ilford - can make a real difference to people's lives.
He said: "Christmas and New Year are very difficult times for homeless people but at the Welcome Centre a hot meal and a shower are always available.
"(The centre was) founded by the High Road Baptist Church, (and has) helped more than 1600 people and gives a helping hand to those in most need.
"It is much more then just food and a clean up, advice and support to turn lives around is there, funded by the Henry Smith Charity, and is part of a partnership with the Redbridge Housing Department.
"Helping the homeless is important work which I do my best to help with. The atmosphere here is just so positive and Sonia and the others really do make a difference to peoples' lives.'"
