ARMED police patrols took place in Waltham Forest last summer.
A Freedom of Information Act request has revealed the patrols took place on an estate in the borough on June 26.
It is understood police are not revealing the specific location of the operation.
An officer in Waltham Forest wrote in the document that the borough had one of the highest rates of 999 calls linked to gun crime.
He said: "The application makes clear that gun-enabled crime within the borough is centred within the black community."
It has been reported that some officers were concerned about the adverse impact on community relations as suspects were predominantly black.
The Guardian is awaiting more information from Waltham Forest police.
Armed patrols also took place in Brent, Lambeth, Wandsworth and Haringey.
