A CONTROVERSIAL plan to demolish a hostel and garages and build 24 new homes will be considered by councillors at a town hall meeting tonight.
The council is to sell the buildings, at 33 Higham Hill Road, Walthamstow to Islington & Shoreditch Housing Association (ISHA), which has submitted plans to demolish the buildings and build a three-storey development containing 24 homes.
A total of 30 residents have objected to the plans, on the basis that garages and hostel accommodation will be lost, the new build will be too high and there will be icnreased traffic, noise and pollution.
Officers say the development will help meet affordable housing targets and that a replacement for the hostel is not required.
It will be recommended that councillors grant permission on the condition ISHA stumps up more than £145,000 for health, education and environmental improvements.
