THE health and safety record of the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has been better than the industry average, 2012 bosses have claimed.

The ODA says there have been a total of eight sets of a million hours worked without a serious accident.

John Armitt, ODA chairman, said: “We have achieved an excellent safety record on the project so far through the commitment and hard work of everyone on the site.

"However, there are still huge challenges ahead of us as we enter our toughest year.

“The number of workers and activity on site will reach its peak with construction underway in every part of the Olympic Park. "

The workforce on the 2012 site will increase to 11,000 later in the year.
