PEOPLE out enjoying the snowy weather have been warned to steer clear of the borough's ice-covered lakes and waterways.
The council has called on residents not to take any risks by trying to walk on the ice in case they fall through into the freezing water.
The Guardian reported on several incidents last winter when families had to be rescued from Eagle Ponds in Snaresbrook after becoming stranded on islands in the middle of the ice.
A council spokeswoman said: "Residents are being warned to stay off icy lakes across the borough as many have partially frozen due to the cold temperatures.
"Even though lakes and water courses may look frozen, the varying thickness of ice and very low water temperatures mean it is particularly dangerous.
"Redbridge Council is therefore asking residents to be extra careful when visiting the parks and not to enter any water or go on to the ice.
"In case of an emergency call either the Parks Police or dial 999."
