PEDESTRIANS and motorists are being warned to take extra care as continuing sub-zero temperatures turn snow to sheet ice.
Streets including George Lane in South Woodford have become dangerously slippery as ice covers the pavements.
A message on Redbridge Council's website states: "Extreme care should be taken on all local and residential roads.
"People are advised to drive with care, use dipped headlights and keep additional braking distance from the vehicles in front."
Temperatures plummeted as low as -7C overnight, meaning conditions were treacherous around the borough this morning.
The council has said its grit stocks are low and that it has ordered more, but supplies are being diverted to the north of England where conditions are worse.
More snow is predicted later today, with about 5cm (2in) expected to fall across London.
