THE fate of two controversial planning applications has been put on ice as the severe weather affects council business.
Redbridge Council postponed the Regional Planning Committee West meeting, which was due to be held at 7.15pm last night (January 6), after heavy snowfall and freezing cold conditions disrupted transport across the entire borough.
Councillors had been set to decide on an application to build a three-storey, four bedroom house in a plot of derelict land in Chelmsford Road, in South Woodford.
The application has attracted heavy criticism from neighbours, who said the new house would be out of keeping with the character of the affluent turning and would create an eyesore for residents.
In the same meeting, a proposal to build a home in between two existing properties on the 1930s Nightingale Estate in Wanstead was also up for discussion.
Neighbours felt the house would look drastically out of place given the period nature of the properties in the area, and were also concerned that a property was being squeezed into a narrow plot currently occupied by a brick-built garage and wooden car port.
Redbridge Council confirm that a date has not yet been set for the rescheduled meeting.
