HUNDREDS of people across Redbridge are expected to stay off work today (Thursday) to avoid travelling on the capital's ice covered roads.
Many of the borough's commuters have opted to avoid driving altogether after temperatures dropped as low as -5 degrees overnight leaving black ice on ungritted roads.
Conditions are set to get worse later today with more snow showers predicted - though they are expected to be lighter than yesterday.
Motorists who have chosen to brave the roads have been urged to plan their journey home before leaving work this afternoon.
An AA spokesman said: "We would advise motorists to think about their route home first and avoid any areas where they think there are likely to be problems.
"The quick rat run might not be so quick today.
"We would also advise people who are at home today to clear any excess snow off their vehicles this evening to avoid giving the impression that they have been abandoned.
"This would make them less likely to be targeted by thieves."
