WITH more snow forecast for this weekend the East of England Ambulance Service is urging people to journey safely and reduce 999 calls.

Potentially heavy snow showers, are predicted across the Epping Forest District today and Sunday, and with temperatures keeping below freezing, ice is a real threat on roads and pavements.

The ambulance service has recommended people wear proper clothing and footwear, and motorists take more care when driving.

Associate director of A&E services Neil Storey said: "If the public take responsibility for their own safety as far as possible, it can make all the difference between avoiding an accident, and needing 999 care. This can then have a positive impact on our call demand.

"The public must also remember that unless their condition is life-threatening or serious, there are many alternatives available such as calling NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 or contacting your local GP or pharmacist."
