THE Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the East of England, including Essex, with heavy snow forecast for tonight and tomorrow.
A statement issued by the Met Office reads: “Outbreaks of snow starting on Saturday afternoon will become heavy and persistent during the evening and last into Sunday. Seven to 12 cm of fresh level snow are expected widely with 10 to 20 cm locally. Drifting in the very strong winds will cause even greater accumulations in places.
“The public are advised to take extra care and refer to the Highways Agency for further advice regarding traffic disruption on motorways and trunk roads.”
“Very Low” temperatures down to -3°C overnight are expected to make roads very icy tomorrow (Sunday).
