More snow has fallen today causing further problems for commuters.
The Met Office has put a severe weather warning in place for London and the east of England and is warning people to be prepared for disruption as the snowfall continues.
Trains and airports in the region were affected by the adverse weather, which is expected to see two to four cm of snow settle throughout the day.
A spokesman for the Met office said: "Outbreaks of snow, moderate at times, are likely during today, gradually easing from the southwest.
"Snow falling on frozen surfaces may cause icy stretches on untreated roads and pavements and the public are advised to take extra care."
The London Overground has been closed between Stratford and Richmond due to the adverse weather conditions.
All flights from London Gatwick Airport have been suspended and passengers planning to travel to Paris from London City Airport are advised to check before they travel as some flights have been suspended due to ongoing industrial action and the severe weather.
There are currently no reports of school closures, but councils are advising people the situation may change as the snow falls.
