A RUGBY club has been special accreditation from the English RFU headquarters at Twickenham.

Wanstead Rugby Club was given the prestigious “Seal of Approval”, recognising its effort and achievement in committing to the Active Sports programme.

The programme is aimed at encouraging children and young people to improve their sporting skills.

One of only two clubs in the area with the accreditation, it will also means the club is now eligible to apply for grant funding for things like flood lighting.

Rugby club chairman Barrie Ward said: “This is an important achievement for us and the official presentation will be on Saturday 23rd January at 12 noon.

“We have three of our senior sides playing at home on the day too.”

A special lunch will also take place before the games and about 60 guests are expected to attend, including RFU officials.

Mr Ward added: “This has taken our youth chairman, Harry Skinner, almost two years of very hard work to attain and all 22 youth and mini coaches will be present on the day.

“We are absolutely dedicated to offering the local youngsters an opportunity to learn how to play rugby in a safe and friendly environment.”

Wanstead Rugby Club offers coaching for youngsters from the age of seven and trains at Roding Lane North, Woodford Green.
