ESSEX County Council has said it will carry out a survey of the district's roads and allocate "additional resources" to fix them following widespread damage caused by the recent bad weather.

As the snow and ice melts away, potholes and other problems are believed to have surfaced on dozen of Epping Forest's roads due to the big freeze.

Residents have been told they can report specific road problems by calling the authority on 0845 603 7631, but cabinet member for highways Cllr Norman Hume said the highest risk areas would be dealt with as a priority.

He said: "Essex has one of the best highways networks in the country and we want to maintain that, so I am ensuring that additional resources have been allocated to deal with issues caused by the winter weather.

“Our teams of engineers will be working across the county, carrying out repairs as quickly as possible in order to keep our roads in the conditions that our residents expect and deserve.

“Residents can also report road defects to us directly, but at present we will be focusing our efforts on areas that present the most immediate safety risks.”
