EPPING Forest District Council has apologised to residents following major disruption to its phone system today.
The authority said only half of calls got through to its main office number and some direct lines due to a hardware fault with its switchboard.
However at 4pm the council issued a statement saying the problem had now been fixed.
A spokesman said: "Please accept our apologies for the temporary inconvenience".
