VIOLENT crime among young people in the borough has fallen by almost a third since April 2009.

These crimes fell by 29.8 per cent across Redbridge, which amounts to the second-biggest reduction in London, as the number of incidents fell from 188 to 132 in the same period the previous year.

Redbridge Council has pointed to a series of schemes, run in conjunction with the Metropolitan Police, such as the Knife Crime Awareness Initiative in November last year.

This includes a travelling drama roadshow, the introduction of knife screening arches, stop and searches and other measures, which the council said contributed to a 20.6 percent reduction in knife crime.
